About the camp
Camp Pinewood is a YMCA summer camp at the bottom edge of the Manistee National Forest near Muskegon, Michigan.
The camp itself is 99 years old and sits on 200 acres of woodland. We fell in love with this place because it feels like a classic Midwest getaway. It makes us want to turn off our phones, jump in the water, then warm up by a fire making friendship bracelets.
When it came time to think about what we wanted in a wedding, we both agreed that the ceremony itself should take a back seat to spending real, quality time with the people we love. Our friends and family are spread out all across the country, and this will be a rare chance for all of us to get together, play summer camp, and party like teenagers.
About the lodges
Overnight accommodation will be provided for all guests who wish to stay at the camp. Our bridal party, parents, and some of our older guests will be staying in cabins with their own bathrooms, but the majority of our guests will be in camp cabins with bunk beds and no bathrooms.
All beds in the camp have a mattress cover that’s fully waterproof and cleanable. We will be sanitizing everything ourselves, at Anja’s insistence, even though the camp already does so between every event.
The beds are twin-sized, so you’ll want to bring a pillow and sleeping bag or, if you’d prefer, a bedding set. If you’re unable to bring bedding, no worries! We’ll have some sleeping bags and pillows available; just let us know if you’ll need them when you RSVP.
Every lodge has heat, electricity, and a beautiful front porch with a picnic table. If you’re bringing food and drink, you’ll probably want to bring a cooler to keep in your cabin, since there aren’t refrigerators.
For anyone wishing to stay off site, nearby Muskegon offers hotels and other accommodations.
About the bathrooms
Our bridal party, parents, and some of our older guests will be staying in cabins that have bathrooms in them, but the vast majority of our guests will be in cabins without a bathroom.
The camp has two large bathroom/shower houses, with separate men’s and women’s facilities.
It’s basically a much cleaner version of a state campground bathroom.
You’ll want to bring flip flops for the showers, plus a bath towel and a container of some kind to haul your toiletries. The camp maintenance team will be on-site to empty the trash and make sure nothing breaks.
